Welcome to West Africa
IWMI Africa shares the vision of the African Union for "an Africa free from hunger and poverty" and supports its NEPAD program. With offices in Pretoria, Addis Ababa and Ghana, IWMI is represented in all the regions of sub-Saharan Africa (SSA).
IWMI West Africa's main office is in Accra, Ghana, and they run activities throughout the sub-region. Satellite offices are in Kumasi, Ghana and Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso.
IWMI works in collaboration with national, sub-regional, regional and international partners, other Future Harvest (CGIAR) centers and a large number of advanced research institutions, mainly across Europe and USA.
IWMI's sub-regional research portfolio focuses on efforts to reduce poverty and to provide improved food security through sustainable and efficient agricultural water use. Related projects range from the analysis of adoption factors for different farming technologies to basin-scale modeling, irrigation policy development, understanding the relationship between malaria and irrigation, and identifying and implementing health risk reduction measures for safer wastewater reuse. Projects are currently distributed over four (4) major research areas:

• Safe Use of Wastewater excreta and Solid Waste in (Peri)-urban Agriculture
